37 Week check up

by Susan on May 20, 2011 · 4 comments

We had our doctors appointment on Wednesday, My blood pressure was good, baby’s heart rate was 157 bpm. The nurse found his heartbeat way down low this time. Usually they find it around my belly button, right then Nate and I both thought yeah he defiantly has dropped. The doctor did check me, which by the way is not very comfortable and kind of hurt. But he said my cervix is still pretty much closed up but that Caden was in -1 station which is really low down into the pelvis and he was very happy with where he was at.

The doctor had both Nate and I feel his head through my stomach which was really cool.

How far along: 37 and half weeks pregnant.

Weight Gain: 39 lbs.

Symptoms:

Contractions: I’ve been feeling over all good, but have noticed a few changes in me. Especially yesterday. My two friends Jenny and Brittany who are also pregnant; I’m sure you have heard me talk about them before. Jenny is about 3 weeks due after me and Brittany is due in September. Anyways, we decided to go to lunch and go see a matinee. We saw Something Borrowed with Kate Hudson. It was a very cute chick flick :) . It was nice to get away have some girl time and catch up on all of our pregnancies. I can’t wait for little play dates with them. In the movie I noticed a lot of braxton hicks, pressure and period like pain all around my lower back and lower abdomen. This isn’t the first time I’ve felt this. But my belly kept tightening throughout the movie but I thought it was just because I had to pee. I’ve been getting braxton hicks contractions ever since I was 6 months pregnant. So I’m kind of use to it, and when I have to pee it brings it on a bit. Well, I went to the bathroom after the movies and started my walk home. (About a 10-15 minute walk). The entire walk home my belly was contracting. It was irregular but really close together. I walked faster and chalked it up to it was probably cause I was walking. I finally got home and sat on the couch and started timing them. They drastically slowed down, but I continuously got them the rest of the night from 20-35 minutes apart. Obviously, it wasn’t real labor because they would have gotten closer together and stronger but that was a huge change from when I would just get 5 random ones throughout the day. They have defiantly gotten longer and more intense.

Random Crying: I haven’t had one recently but a few weeks ago it happened a couple of times, I’ll be driving in my car or doing something I normally do and just start crying for no reason. Like full blown tears. Which is really different for me because I haven’t really been emotional throughout the pregnancy like other women I have talked to.

Nesting: I think I’ve been nesting on and off for a while now. Some days I’ll clean some stuff, other days I feel like I should be in bed. The beginning of the week I felt achy, tired, and just blah and didn’t do anything besides lay around and then a couple days later I had all this energy and even yesterday and today I’ve felt great. So lots of ups and downs with my energy. Last night I had the urge to clean all of our wood floors which Nate apparently thought I was nesting. He could be right, it was 8:30 at night and I was frantically cleaning the floors. I haven’t had energy to clean the floors in over a month.

Appetite: My appetite has gone down. I’m hungry for breakfast and lunch but after that I won’t be hungry for dinner at all. The last couple nights I haven’t had dinner, I’ve either had to make a smoothie or make myself eat a little snack before bed. So that’s really different … obviously 39 lbs didn’t come from not eating :)

Sleep: It’s going relatively still good. I actually just had my first nightmare about labor last night. It was really creepy and one of my brothers was the doctor, and Nate wasn’t there and I kept saying I need to call him because the baby was going to come out at any moment … it was really, really weird.

What I’m looking forward to: Having Caden and starting my 365 project!

So do the symptoms and changes mean labor? Who knows. He’ll come when he’s ready or when we make him :) . We go back next week for another check-up, to see how things are progressing and to get another ultrasound done. Hopefully we’ll have more news then. In the meantime I’ll be hanging out … playing the waiting game :) Peace out! Going to enjoy this gorgeous day!

PS: This shirt USE to be really long on me … not no more.

I think it’s a great sign that contractions are starting… even if they are 30 minutes apart. I can’t wait to hear the progress you’ve made by next week! I had a blast yesterday :)
