Discovery Place for Kids

Keeping Caden occupied now that he’s mobile is becoming harder and harder every day. Sure his toys are great but he gets sick of them real fast. So I’ve been looking around for something to get Caden involved in for the winter and get him out of the house. One of the places we looked was Discovery Place Kids here in Huntersville. We stayed for about an hour checking it out and letting Caden play. This place is awesome!

I mean seriously it’s like walking into a world run by kids. Although it’s geared towards older kids, Caden still had a blast. They have a little area for the younger babies as soon as you walk in. Mostly early walkers and crawlers. The best part is that they have this little water area where they can sit and play.  Caden loved splashing in the water and looking at the other kids across the table.

What he loved even more was licking this ball that he found. I mean like every inch of it. It took every bone in my body not to rip it out of his hands. I was cringing at the thought of how many germs were on this ball but I held back and let him “explore” it. Boy did he ever.

Once we were done licking the ball playing in the water we took a little tour around to check the whole place out.

When you look around you see all these “real” life places that children can play in. The first thing we passed was a post office with the actual tube from the drive through. As we walked by there was a child inside the bank asking the other child on the outside of the bank for money through the intercom system. They were sending the canister back and forth through the tube.  As soon as we passed the post office this little girl with a shopping cart came zooming out of the grocery store. Her cart was filled up so high with groceries she had no clue where she was going. We peaked in and saw a boy checking out all the other kids at the check out line. The shelves were wiped clean, but after seeing that girls cart; I know why. She must of been an extreme couponer.

The next little area was the restaurant and all the adults were sitting at the tables and booths while all the kids were behind the counters serving them.

You turn another corner and your in the “Gym” with balls and actual gym lockers. You walk a little farther and your in a farm with a chicken coop with eggs that they can collect and big ‘ole tractor they can drive.

There’s an ambulance and a huge fire truck with coats and hats for them to wear. They have a boat and veterinary clinic with stuffed animals to fix up. All this stuff is so realistic it’s awesome. And that’s just the “pretend” area. They also have an arts and craft area and a whole upstairs for older kids.

Children learn best through play and this is a great place for kids to use their imagination. They even have a little snack area so you can spend as much time as you want there. I know once Caden is a little older and walking we will be getting an annual pass. But right now because he’s still little and there is really only one small area where the babies can play we’ll probably only go every once in a while for now. But over all I was really impressed with how creative and realistic it was. And from the smiles on these kids faces I’d say they all had a great time.

Have you ever taken your kids to a museum like this?

How did it go? Did they like it?

I love those children’s museums. I take my 3 year old often but have yet to take the new baby. Maybe in a couple months when she is mobile and can enjoy it better. Especially in the winter, the germs at those places creep me out (paranoia i know!)
