Gone Campin’

So we are back from camping and we had a great time. It was short but sweet and a little wet. We left Sunday morning and headed up to DuPont Forest. I’ve always wanted to go there when I found out there were waterfalls you can hike to. I want to say there are like 5 or 6 different falls trails. So we ventured up there and it took about 2 1/2 hours for us to get there. We set up camp, got all situated and headed out to hike. It was a gorgeous day; partly cloudy about 75 … not to hot there was some wind so we weren’t sweatin’ our butts off … and the best part is there were spots where the boys could get in the water and cool off. On our way back to our camp ground it started to sprinkle. Nate kept calling it “summer rain” and that it would pass. When we got back to our campsite we put a tarp up and boy was Nate proud. I have to say it was one sturdy rain cover. And of course as soon as we got it up; it stopped raining and held out for a while so we could sit under the stars and enjoy some s’mores and a fire. Once we went to bed and were in the tent luckily; it started pouring and thundering randomly throughout the night and of course Kala was shaking like a leaf all night. It wasn’t the best sleep but being all together made up for it. We would do all over again in a heartbeat. In fact, when we have kids we’ll be going on lots of camping trips. It’s nice to leave all technology behind, you don’t have phone service .. which is good but kind of freaky at the same time. I just kept thinking what if something happened? But that is why you always bring a first aid kit.

We went knowing that it was just “us” time and it was very nice with many laughs. In the morning we planned to hike again and make breakfast (Nate’s favorite meal) but it was down pouring and we decided to leave and get some breakfast at this little diner on the way home. Which was awesome. Dixie Diner was the name. Great place, nice people. So overall our first family campin’ trip was a success. As our family grows we’ll need a bigger tent but for now it fits all four of us perfectly.

*We got some footage of our trip and I’ll be putting together a little video. But until then here are a couple photos that we took!
