So a brides worst nightmare has happened to me this past week. The spot I saw my hubby and I dancing our first dance, and cutting our cake is no longer going to happen. We got a call last week about our reception venue going out of business but the worst part was that the owner didn’t even want to tell any of us. Luckily the wedding director decided to give each and everyone of us a call and let us know. He wanted her to wait 2 weeks so that he could dissolve his business and basically vanish; that is just dirty. He owes people lots of money; there are probably about 8 -10 brides ahead of my event so all these deposits plus more add up. Even the one that was getting married this weekend who put her heart and soul into planning the perfect day for herself .. and 5 days before her wedding date she finds out that the reception building has locks on it and is owned by the bank. I feel like we are in a bad spot but I couldn’t even imagine. All the money saved and spent on a reception just gone. People put their life savings into having a wedding and weddings are expensive. Yes, we more than likely won’t get our deposit back and the brides that have spent all their money probably won’t see a dime. It sucks so bad and my heart goes out to all the other brides in a worse position then us. I’m actually grateful that we didn’t go to our tasting next week pay more money and then find out. If that would have happened we wouldn’t be having a wedding at all. Everything happens for a reason but it’s hard to find that reason when your super bummed; especially the bride this weekend.
The “half glass full” part is that this may work out for our benefit and end up being more convenient for our guests. We have a couple spots in mind for our reception that have our date available. And reception venues are willing to work with us and help us out which is really nice. So I’m keeping my head high and thinking positive and at the end of the day who cares about a nice modern building on the water … it’s not about the building or place, or flowers or look of a wedding it’s about making that commitment to my future husband and having two families combine with all of our friends and family around. No matter where we will be; we have tons of cool friends and family that can have fun anywhere.
So we are headed to Charleston soon to look at a couple of places and I will keep you posted on our saga
