“Ghosting” Neighborhood Tradition

by Susan on October 12, 2011 · 0 comments

Have you ever been “Ghosted”?

While my mom was down here visiting me last week she ended up getting “ghosted” back home. I have never heard of such a thing so I was pretty curious about it. After she explained what it was I thought; Oh Fun! Maybe I’ll start the tradition in our neighborhood. Then the other day while driving through my neighborhood I noticed “Ghosts” on my neighbor’s doors. They do it here too! I’m hoping we get ghosted soon!

The Rules:

  • It starts early in October so the whole neighborhood has a chance to get ghosted.
  • After you get ghosted you have to ghost two families
  • To ghost someone you must put together 2 scare kits (1 for each family) which should include a Halloween goodie bag,  a picture of a ghost and a letter stating that you’ve been ghosted with instructions on how to carry on the tradition.
  1. You can write out your own letter with clear instructions on how to keep the tradition alive
  2. Or you can use the Ghosting Poem below
  • Once you get ghosted you have to put up a picture of the ghost provided so people know that you have been ghosted. You can only get ghosted once.
  • After you put together your (2) goodie bags, ghosts and letters you wait till after dark and go up to your targeted houses, drop off your goodie bags, ring the doorbells and RUN
  • The goal is to not get caught

Poem

You’ve Been Ghosted!

Late last night, we left you a treat.

The tradition is fun, one we hope you’ll repeat.

Take the ghost and pin it on your door,

to let others know, you need ghosted no more.

Now it’s your duty to pass on the surprise,

to two more families, we must advise.

Gather some treats and deliver them soon,

within two nights, under the light of the moon.

Include a ghost with each package you give,

along with this poem for the tradition to live.

How fun does this sound?

Does your neighborhood do any traditions during the holidays?
