What would you do if you heard fire alarms going off?

I was in the mall today shopping for a dress for this weekend. And sirens start going off in every store and all throughout the building. It was loud!!!  I mean alarms, sirens and lights that were flashing. I started looking around like what is going on and no one did anything. Everyone went about there business and kept shopping. At first I thought ok maybe it was a test or something. But don’t you think that they would announce that over the PA, before scaring us? It was the weirdest thing, so I went up to the sales clerk at H&M and asked her what was going on. She said oh those are  just the smoke detectors …. WTF, just the smoke detectors??? I said “ok, so should I go outside or something.” She’s like no, if you want you can continue shopping if you can take the sound.

Uh, no thank you. I mean what happens if there is a real fire, how does she know that this one is fake. Fake or not, still the same sound. If it was a real fire people would probably go about their business until it was too late, weren’t these people taught in elementary school to leave the building if the alarm sounds? It blows my mind, the whole place was full of sirens and alarms loud enough where it was hard to hear people. But there was no rushing around, just people who continued shopping. So it brings me to my question what would you do, if the building that your in, alarms start going off? Would you be that person to just continue to walk around or would you be the person to be out the front door in seconds?

~So just for curious readers, it did turn out to be nothing and someone might have pulled the fire alarm. And the alarms did stop after a couple minutes but I was cautious about what was going on that is for sure. You will not catch me in a fire at the mall … sirens = peace out for me :)
